Empowering Western NC and Upstate SC with Solar Since 1995

The Sundance Difference

Check out this discussion on what makes Sundance Power Systems different than the national solar marketing companies. Those companies do not have actual design, installation or service staff in any area. They hire door-to-door canvassers to try and push homeowners into buying solar on the spot. We do not do that. We do occasionally canvas a neighborhood near one of our customers with the goal of raising awareness about someone’s solar potential. But we listen to our customers, craft custom designs and work out the best options for their situation.

Jeremy:

Hi, I’m Jeremy and I’ve got James Fisher with me with Sundance Power Systems. How are you?

James:

Doing great, Jeremy.

Jeremy:

So obviously there are different solar companies out there. Everyone has probably had a solar sales rep  knock on the door and there’s another solar company trying to sell you their product or their service. So how is Sundance Power Systems different? Now I know you guys have been in business for almost 30 years, and I know you guys design and install solar, but I’m sure every account or sales rep would say that. So how are you guys different from really other companies?

James:

Well, Sundance has utilized what we call the five-step design process since the beginning and what that entails is a little different than some of the companies now. Now you’ll have somebody knock on your door and they’ll say, “Hey, we looked at your home through our software and we designed a system. Here it is. Would you like to go solar?” Our view is that you don’t have anywhere near enough knowledge to really, really make the right system for that individual customer. You haven’t listened to them, you haven’t analyzed anything, and so therefore our five-step design process was created to answer all of that. And the first step is a site visit. You call us, we assign one of our energy consultants to you. They set a time and they just come and visit your home. It’s not a long visit, but they’re able to see  the lay of the land, see your rooftop, see what kind of shading you have, talk about and listen to what your plans are, what your view is with what you want to do with your solar system.

After that, they bring that information back here. We use an excellent software program that analyzes your irradiance, which is the potential your home site has year-round with the sun. Our design team then creates a preliminary estimate and design for you. Then our energy consultant goes over that with you. If there’s any tweaks in that that design review we go ahead and redo the design, the estimate. Maybe you want to add batteries, maybe you were thinking batteries, but once you see what that looks like, maybe you want to change that. Whatever it is, we get a final proposal together and we sit down and go over that and then if all’s good we get you on our installation schedule. And, next thing you know, you are powering your house with power of the sun!

Jeremy:

So if you have somebody knock on your door and they’re trying to push you through a process fast, that’s not going to be Sundance?

James:

No. No. It’s not going to be Sundance, it’s not going to be really any of the local installers. We have some excellent local installers in this area. Our recommendation is just go with your gut. Would you… Someone knocking on your door and basically pitching you what is essentially your own personal power plant, your own electrical source. You really want experienced, knowledgeable people who are going to listen to you, design a system for your home, for your needs, and that’s what we provide.*

Jeremy:

Got it. So if anyone wants to learn more, tell us how to contact you guys.

James:

Well, the website is always a great place to start, sundancepower.com or just give us a call at 828-645-2080.

Jeremy:

Awesome. Thanks so much for your time.

James:

Thank you.

  • NOTE: Sundance does occasionally reach out to neighbors of our customers, sometimes by knocking on doors. But we are not trying to sell you a cookie-cutter system on the spot: we will always listen, learn and design a custom system to meet each customer’s needs.
