*Sundance is not currently installing Wind systems. *
Wind power technology uses a turbine to convert the energy of the blowing wind into mechanical energy, which is then converted into electricity. This technology is now the fastest-growing form of renewable energy in the world; however, it is very site specific.
We’re blessed with some exceptionally strong wind sites in Sundance’s service area, which includes North Carolina and South Carolina. If you are fortunate enough to have a site with sustained average wind speeds of 10 – 15 miles per hour, wind power may be a renewable energy option for you.
ADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY
- Wind has the capacity to produce power continuously all day and night in periods of windy weather
- Wind can be used in both off-grid and grid-connected systems.
- Wind can complement an off-grid solar system since windy conditions and cloudy weather often occur simultaneously.
COULD WIND POWER YOUR HOME, SCHOOL, OR BUSINESS?
In the Southeast, wind energy is most abundant along the coast and at high mountain elevations. If you’re well situated, a wind turbine can be a great source of clean energy. To get an estimated idea of the wind resource at your site, Sundance consults wind resource maps published by NOAA, NREL, and other meteorological research organizations. Due to the physics of wind, accurate measurements are critical. To obtain quantified wind data, an anemometer should be installed for a year to record seasonal averages.
At Sundance, we’re happy to consult with you about the best renewable energy solution for your project—whether that’s a home, business, school, nonprofit, government building, or military installation. We have over 27 years of experience providing customized renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, and micro hydro!

RESOURCES TO ASSESS SITE POTENTIAL
These resources can help you assess whether your site has potential for wind energy:
HOW DO WIND TURBINES WORK?
Wind turbines capture some of the energy of the blowing wind as it rotates the turbine blades. This motion is converted into either AC or DC current for use as electricity. In an off-grid system or a grid-tied system with back-up, energy is stored in batteries on-site to provide power when you need it. Sundance can provide a wind power system that is customized for your site, your budget, and your energy objectives.

COVERING THE COST OF WIND TURBINES
Over time, any well designed renewable energy system will pay for itself by cutting your energy costs. From that point on, it continues to generate energy for free! There are also significant tax credits, grants, and incentives available to reduce the up-front costs of renewable energy systems, including wind turbines. Sundance will work with you to design a cost-effective system that provides excellent return on investment. Through our partners, we can provide 100% financing for the costs of your clean energy system.
