Empowering Western NC and Upstate SC with Solar Since 1995

North Carolina Solar Energy Association Held Solar Summit Last May

The NCSEA held its annual ‘Clean Energy in the Mountains’ event this past May at Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, NC. Dave Hollister, the president and co-founder of Sundance Power Systems, was a speaker on the panel.

From the NCSEA website:

“At this event, we’ll host conversations about clean energy program limitations, and what’s needed to spur rapid growth for customer projects to accelerate progress towards the state’s goal of 70carbon emissions reductions by 2030.”

Daniel Walton covered the event for The Assembly. The Assembly describes itself as a “digital-first magazine that publishes deep reporting on power and place in North Carolina.”

From The Assembly article: A state law passed in 2021 requires utilities to cut carbon dioxide emissions 70 percent from 2005 levels by 2030. Some local governments have set even more aggressive goals; Buncombe County’s aims to power all municipal operations with renewables in that timeframe.

Dave Hollister spoke about the “solar coaster”, or the ever-changing nature of solar energy policy and economics in this industry. Here is a pull quote from the story:

“We’re fundamentally in a battle with who controls our energy”

Read the entire article here. It is a detailed and interesting look into the role of renewable energy, particularly solar, in North Carolina. Sundance was happy to be part of this important discussion last May. As we approach 30 years in business as a residential and commercial solar installer, it has never been more crucial for North Carolina and the whole planet to consider where our power comes from and who owns it.
